Septuagenarian pensioner killed by speeding hire car
A SEPTUAGENARIAN pensioner was killed on the Onderneeming Public Road just after midday yesterday.
Kenrick Boyce, 73, died on the spot after he was hit by a speeding hire car while riding his bicycle.
Reports said Boyce, who was a very active member of the Onderneeming Concerned Citizens Group, had attended a meeting with Councillors of the Annandale/Riverstown Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) at the Suddie Office, also on the Essequibo Coast and was proceeding, with some other members of his organisation and NDC members, to inspect a burial ground when tragedy struck.
He was hurled several feet in the air on impact and his entire body was disfigured, with a deep hole visible on his head.
His bicycle was also broken into several pieces.
Boyce, who worked hard to see his village, Onderneeming, developed, has left to mourn 12 children, many relatives and friends.
The driver of the hire car, HC 264, is in Police custody as investigations into the fatality continue.
The deceased is a former electrical inspector attached to the regional administration of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam).
