INCLEMENT weather over the weekend forced the postponement of two football tournaments which were set to commence yesterday and today in Georgetown and Berbice. Yesterday, the Berbice Football Association (BFA) fourth annual Dr Cheddi Jagan Memorial knockout football tournament could not get under way at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground due to the inclement weather which persisted for over 26 hours prior to the kick off.
The double-header which was scheduled to kick off at 13:30hrs will now be contested on February 4 as Monedderlust go head to head with newcomers Manchester United and defending champions New Amsterdam United face Ithaca Hardlanders in the feature at 15:30hrs.
Meanwhile, the fifth annual Namilco Football Festival, which is organised by the Fruta Conquerors Football Club, was also postponed to a date to be announced for later in this week according to the club’s president Marlan Cole.
Today would have seen the tournament kick off at 18.00hrs with Sunburst Camptown clashing with the University of Guyana then Alpha United taking on Banks Allstars in the feature at 20.00hrs.
