IAC queries the status of investigations into the Sheema Mangar incident

THE Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) has issued a statement in relation to the seeming uncertainty surrounding the status of the investigations into the death of Ms. Sheema Mangar, the bank clerk who perished after being dragged by a motor car in September, 2010. The IAC says it is fully aware of the recent exchanges between those responsible for the investigations and family members, and believes that enough time has elapsed for the completion of the forensic examination of hair and clothing samples taken from a car suspected to be involved in the horrific incident.
From what has transpired, the IAC says, it seems there has been some inefficiency with regard to the investigations, and this has exacerbated the frustration of the traumatized family members. The IAC is therefore calling on those responsible for solving this heinous crime to swiftly resolve the situation, so that family members can bring some closure to their unenviably distressing experience.
Further, the IAC has called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene in an effort to expedite the process, so that the perpetrator(s) can be brought to justice; and for the police authority to institute disciplinary action against those found to be delinquent in the execution of their duties during the investigations.
The IAC says it is not oblivious to the challenges some Guyanese can face in circumstances similar to those of the Mangar family, but the IAC wishes to empathize with the family, urging them to remain strong and steadfast during this period.
