THE Immigration Department at Lethem will be temporarily operating from the police office within the Multipurpose Complex, as a result of an early morning fire which caused damage to the Immigration Office located in the said complex.
According to a release from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the fire, which occurred at about 04.00hrs, was quickly extinguished by police ranks, assisted by members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) stationed at Lethem.
A computer, two filing cabinets, and several chairs within the Immigration Office are reported to have been damaged.
Investigations to determine the cause of the fire are ongoing, the release added.
