THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the multiple charges against the men charged following the 2009 terrorist activities resumed before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday. Colin Jones, Randy Mars, Basil Morgan, Anthony Watson and Jahfar Sampson are charged with murder, attempted murder and setting fire to a public building.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, informed the court that the prosecution is ready to close its case against those accused of the attempted murder charges.
However, the magistrate adjourned the proceedings to January 25 and said the prosecutor would be allowed to do so on that date.
Defence counsel, Nigel Hughes and George Thomas are representing Morgan and the other accused, respectively.
The five prisoners made their first court appearance in 2010, after the arson at the Ministry of Health, on Brickdam; attempts to burn the Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court building as well as the gun attack on Brickdam Police Station, all in Georgetown, during July 2009.
