Part of booty recovered, sacrilege accused remanded

PREVIOUSLY convicted offender Deodat Nohar, 42, was remanded to prison yesterday by Magistrate Fabio Azore at Whim Court. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of sacrilege, committed at St. Joseph Anglican Church, Port Mourant, also at Corentyne, Berbice.
Police Corporal, Roberto Figuiera, prosecuting, said the prisoner broke into the place of worship, on January 7 last and stole a quantity of candles, three bottles of Banko wine and a bedspread, all valued a total of $48,900.
The prosecutor said, following information received, police from Rose Hall Outpost went to the Port Mourant home of the accused, from where they recovered the bedspread.
The case will be called, again, on February 1.
