DOCTORS at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) began battling, late Tuesday, to try and save the life of a 29-year-old painter, who accidentally ingested thinners. The patient, Andy Allicock, of Lot 31 James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, started vomiting around 13:30 hrs that day.
He was painting a boat at River View, Ruimveldt, in Georgetown, when he became thirsty and remembered there was a bottle of ‘Tropical Mist’ water nearby but was unaware that there was another bottle marked ‘Tropical Mist’ and contained thinners.
Allicock said he picked up the wrong one, placed it to his mouth and gulped. On realising the drink was not water, he quickly threw the bottle to the ground but had already drunk about two ounces.
He hurriedly took a taxi to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the GPH, where he arrived experiencing convulsions and crying out for pains and stomach cramps.
Allicock said he felt like he would “give up the ghost” at any moment but was still alive and, in fact, his condition yesterday is listed as being stable at the GPH, where he is admitted to the Male Medical Ward.
