Man on remand after Itaballi Landing drug bust

KEITH Primo (no address given) was also remanded to prison yesterday, by Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. He pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking and particulars of the offence said, on January 13, at Itaballi Landing, North West District, he had 287 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said ranks at Itaballi Landing stopped a truck, asked the four men inside to identify their bags and a search of the one claimed by Primo contained a milk tin in which the narcotic was concealed.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for the defendant, noting that only Primo was charged, argued that the illegal substance was found in the tray of the vehicle and not in the prisoner’s bag.
But the lawyer claimed the police used violence to make his client take ownership of the marijuana.
The case was transferred to Bartica Court and would be called there tomorrow.
