Hits and Jams faces tough test as ‘Fandemonium’ unfolds

LOCAL entertainment leaders Hits and Jams (HJ) occupied the National Park yesterday with the second staging of their annual Fandemonium event. The Guyana Chronicle arrived to cover the kids’ segment of the event, which was scheduled to last from 14:00 hrs to until it was time for the grownups to have fun at approximately 20:00 hrs.

The crowd was sparse by any standard, but those in attendance were apparently having a great time. All the trappings were there to ensure the kids enjoy themselves — bouncy castle, merry-go-round, face painting, and rides were some of the fun activities kids could enjoy.
Barney was also in attendance, along with a clown friend who gave dancing instructions to the few young folk who were brave enough to accept an invitation to join him on the stage.
Despite enduring several weeks of an apparent public boycott of HJ events, co-owner Rawle Ferguson said the entertainment powerhouse has always been about “giving back”, reminding that orphanages and the Y.M.C.A are among the youth facilities that have benefited from the team’s generosity.
He also pointed out that the HJ ‘Feed the Kids’ programme was in its third year running.
Ferguson promised that HJ would persevere in its mission to bring top-class entertainment to Guyana. He noted that HJ prices were the cheapest, not only in the Caribbean, but worldwide.
Regarding “all that boycott drama”, Ferguson said, the team would air its views in a televised interview very soon, and this will be publicised.
Just like last year, when Hits and Jams hosted their first party of 2011, titled “Fandemonium”, in the National Park on January 8th, this year’s staging was expected to feature local artistes. This year’s scheduled featured performers included X2, Jackie Hanover, Jory and the GT&T Cellink winners.

This year’s prizes are red hot, with a brand new car being among the mix of other hot prizes, such as laptop computers and Blackberry cell phones. Sponsors are Ashmin’s, GT&T, Banks DIH, and ANSA McAL. Giveaways were scheduled to start at 20:00 hrs, whilst the draw for the car will begin at 22:00 hrs.
Will the Hits and Jams team cross this hurdle? Stay in touch.
