THE Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) said on Wednesday around 16:00 hrs, there was a total shutdown of the Demerara interconnected system as a result of damage to vacuum circuit breaker at the Garden of Eden station. The company said the faulty area has been isolated while further investigation is being carried out. Power was restored to all 50Hz areas by 16:25 hrs, while 60Hz areas were not fully restored until 19:00 hrs.
GPL is informing customers that the company has recommenced its maintenance activities with the engine overhaul and radiator replacement for the #3 Unit at the old Kingston Plant.
In addition, the replacement engine for the #3 unit Garden of Eden has been shipped, following successful factory testing, and is expected to arrive in Guyana by January 20. The contractor who will be transporting the engine from John Fernandes Wharf to Garden of Eden is already in the country along with the necessary specialised equipment.
GPL said it would like to thank all customers for their patience, as the company continues to work to improve its services.
