COBINA Stephens (no address given) was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $3,000 on conviction for illegal possession of a gun. He appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, charged with having, on January 7, a .32 pistol and five matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm licence.
The prisoner pleaded not guilty to the ammunition charge but admitted that he had the firearm.
Stephens told the court he was foolish to carry the firearm on his person.
Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, said ranks on mobile patrol were in Lombard Street, Georgetown, when they saw Stephens walking and acting in a suspicious manner.
The prosecutor said police stopped the suspect and a search of his person yielded the firearm along with the other things.
Stephens was remanded to prison on the ammunition charge and will make another court appearance on January 16.
