ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday granted Lennox Rose $75,000 bail on a robbery with violence charge. Rose, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia Squatting Area, Greater Georgetown, denied that, on December 28 last, he robbed Rawlin Crumewing of $20,000 cash and two cell phones and, at the time, used personal violence on the victim.
Rose, who told the court he operates a business in front his home, has to return on February 27.
Meanwhile, Terrence John, of Lot 130 John Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to break and enter and larceny.
Particulars of the charge said, on January 7, in Lombard Street, he broke into the hardware store of C and B Sooklall and stole 80 cans of paint and a pool table foot, together valued $201,000, belonging to Badranauth Sooklall.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the defendant was seen by eyewitnesses leaving the premises with two huge bags.
John was released on $100,000 bail until Janaury 13.
Another defendant, Roscoa David, of Lot 60 Cane Street, Meadow Bank, also in Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to having, on January 5, at Cornhill Street, Stabroek, stolen one ‘LG’ cell phone, valued $30,000, from Vanelda Harris.
Prosecutor Harvey told the court that the virtual complainant was awaiting transportation to go home from school and was using her phone when the defendant snatched it from her.
Harvey said the victim pointed out the defendant the following day, and he successfully objected to bail on the ground that David would usually be at the bus park preying on people with cell phones.
David was remanded to prison until January 12.
