Councillor Chase-Green to act as Deputy Mayor

– pledges to see after interests of the City
COUNCILLOR Patricia Chase-Green will be fulfilling the duties of Deputy Mayor Robert Williams, until he is in a stable condition to resume office at City Hall.
This decision was taken after Williams took ill a few days ago, and had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Intensive Care Unit, and the Caribbean Heart Institute.
During City Hall’s first statutory meeting for 2012, other councillors voted Chase-Green as the most suitable person to perform the task in the absence of Williams.
During an interview with this newspaper, Chase-Green explained, that while she will be performing the duties of the Deputy Mayor, she will still be councillor. “Due to the Deputy Mayor’s illness and hospitalization, the Council has asked that I fulfil some of these duties. Remember, I cannot be deputy mayor per se, I’m just doing his duties for him, since I was elected,” she said.
Chase-Green pointed out that she will be working along with Mayor Hamilton Green to ensure that the duties given to her are executed successfully.
“Council has voted that I perform some of those duties, and in doing those duties, I’ll have to discuss with the Mayor the way forward, because the two have been working together, and I will have to work along with him to see what has to be done,” she said.
The acting Deputy Mayor said that, until the time arrives when she will have to work on behalf of Williams, she will be performing her duties as a councillor.
“As the Mayor rightly said, in his absence, the Deputy Mayor takes up that position. Until that time comes, I can only work along with the Mayor, and I will be just like a normal councillor.”
She added that she is hoping everything works out well for Williams, and trusts that his health is fully restored. Until then, she will make every effort to keep the interest of the City as her main objective.
“Hoping that all goes well with the Deputy Mayor, and that he’s back on the job, and I will try to do my best in acting in his position and fulfilling duties all in the interest of the City, to ensure that we move forward,” she said.
“We want to work together to change the way in City Hall that persons think that nothing can be done; and I’m hoping that we can work with the new government in 2012,” Chase-Green added.
She said while there may be a lot of political issues, her hope is that City Hall can work along with the new government to ensure that the City is brought back to what it once was.
“There are a lot of political issues, but I think we need to deal with others, like the welfare of employees, the salaries that are not being paid, and garbage collection. The mayor will deal with all his other political issues at another level; and if we can assist him, yes, we will,” she offered.
