RECENTLY, I had the unfortunate experience of waiting for a West Demerara bus at the terminal by the  ferry stelling. I say unfortunate because if I had to remain  there for  another five minutes or so, having spent some 15 minutes before getting a bus, I might have fainted. The entire area is littered with garbage and it now takes on the appearance of a garbage dump site. I am not sure who is responsible for the clearing up of the area, but the entire surroundings have now become an eyesore.
Apart from that, the stench that emanates from the area is nauseating, and people, especially children are at risk of contracting diseases. At the time of writing this letter, I was told that several other parts of the city are also covered with garbage, and no body seems to care about the consequences of having these stinking heaps around our garden city.
There is need for action which must be taken now.
