BANDITS INVADE NIGHT CLUB

– four arrested
– weapons, ammo recovered

GUNMEN invaded a popular Night Club in Georgetown, holding up the 62-year-old owner and four employees but quick response by police ranks resulted in four of the suspected bandits being nabbed and a high-powered weapon with ammunition recovered.
The police, in a statement yesterday, said the incident occurred around 22:00 hrs Monday night, when owner of the Hollywood-Bollywood Night Club at Lamaha Street in Newtown, Kitty Ms. Irene Gooding, 62 years, and four of her employees were held up at the Night Club by six men, all armed with firearms. They were robbed of a sum of cash, jewellery and four cell phones.
During the armed robbery, a report was made to the police who responded promptly and upon their arrival at the scene, the perpetrators reportedly scattered in different directions. They were pursued by the police who arrested four men.
The police said it also found a motor car bearing registration number, HB 8692, parked in the vicinity of the Night Club with the engine running, which was suspected to have been used by the armed men.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the motor car’s correct registration number was, PJJ 1072, and that it had been stolen earlier in the night from taxi driver Kevin Higgins, 29 years, of George Street, Georgetown.

Higgins was reportedly hired by three men at Norton Street to be taken to Sophia, where he was held up by one of the men who was armed with an ice-pick. Police said the men then took away his jewellery, cell phone and the car and escaped.
The car was searched and one .32 round was found inside. The immediate surrounding areas to the Hollywood-Bollywood Night Club, where the perpetrators had run, were also searched and an M15 rifle with two magazines and 38 rounds of 5.56 calibre ammunition, an air pistol, a camouflage cap and two cell phones were found by the police.
The two cell phones have been identified by two of the victims as their property that was stolen during the robbery.
The four men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, Ms. Gooding was yesterday full of praise for the police, especially their quick response to the robbery scene.
The night club owner declined to estimate what her losses would have been, since she was lucky enough to get back everything.
“In less than 24 hours I got back my cash and jewellery and my firearm from an alley behind the club,” she told the Chronicle.
The night club owner said this is the first time such an incident took place at her business place in Lamaha Street, Newtown, Kitty.
According to her, the bandits gained entry through a fence at the side of the building after they drove a stolen vehicle through it.
“They broke the fence, kicked down the door and just tried to terrorise the people there, but nobody was touched, but me; I get two lashes on my hand and that’s it,” the 62-year-old woman related.
