… Devon Millington gets Golden Boot award
CALEDONIA AIA midfield player Atuallah Guerra was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 22nd Annual Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament which concluded on Sunday night at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. Guerra was instrumental in his team’s success throughout the competition but was more pivotal in the final against Pele whom they defeated 2-0.
For claiming the accolade, the 24-year-old went home with a unique trophy called ‘The Mercury’ which was sponsored Dale Bascom and Gordon Trotz. He would also be riding back to Trinidad on a brand new motorcycle which was sponsored by Deslyn Jack of Canada.
For scoring a total of eight goals in four matches played, Devon Millington was handed the Golden Boot award.
The striker netted six in Pele’s 10-1 win over Timehri Panthers and a goal each in their 3-1 over Mill Ballers and Amelia’s Ward United. He was, however, kept at bay during the final against Caledonia.
Veteran defender and former long-standing National captain Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard copped the Best Defender title, Amelia’s Ward United’s Travis Waterton was named the Best Midfield Player and won a trophy compliments of Hot & Spicy Dish, while the Most Promising Player trophy went to Aloysius Edwards.
Randy Small scored a goal that would forever be spoken of whenever the Kashif and Shanghai tournament comes around and it certainly made him an automatic winner of the Most Spectacular Goal trophy.
Small, who plays for CBR Mining Milerock scored his side’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Amelia’s Ward with a ‘bicycle kick’ emulating the likes of King Pele who is said to be the inventor of the ‘kick’, Wayne Rooney, Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi just to name a few world stars who have all scored, using one of the most difficult techniques to score.
Meanwhile, apart from winning the one pound of gold, the Trinidadian club won the Ansa McAl Stag Beer Trophy, 26 replicas compliments of Mohammad’s Enterprise and also picked up their first lien on the Dale Bascom and Gordon Trotz trophy.
