Businesswoman found with throat slit

–Man shot dead at Enachu
KAREN Reid-Patterson, called “Shop Lady”, a 47-year-old woman who lived alone and operated a beer garden at Lot 6 Public Road, Mc Doom, Greater Georgetown, was discovered at about 08:40hrs yesterday with her throat slit and multiple stab wounds about the body. Her lifeless body was found by a neighbour who resides in the upper flat of the building. It was positioned just beyond the counter inside her shop, on the lower flat of a two-storey wooden house. The neighbour, who was at the time about to patronize the business, raised an alarm and the police were summoned.
Neighbours recalled seeing the woman sweeping the forecourt of her yard at around 06:00 hrs yesterday, as was customary for her, but they could not recall seeing her afterwards.
Upon hearing the dreadful news, scores of residents descended on the scene to get a glimpse of the body, until the police secured the crime scene.
Karen Reid-Patterson operated the Flava’s Cool-Off Shop, and was the lone occupant of the lower flat of the building, since her husband had recently gone overseas.
She had nine siblings and was childless, according to residents of Mc Doom.
Outside the beer garden, three broken plastic chairs were observed near a table which had an empty orange juice bottle and another bottle half filled with vodka.
It is believed that the woman was the victim of a robbery/murder, and may have known her killers, since there were no signs of forced entry.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Junior Oscar Alphonso De Roche, 43, of Lot 2 Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, a father of five, was shot dead on Friday at Enachu, Cuyuni, during an argument.
Police reported that the incident occurred on Friday during an argument with another man at Enachu, Cuyuni.
Investigators have been dispatched to the area, and no other information is available at this time, police said.
His children’s mother, Ivy Orna, told the Guyana Chronicle that she received a telephone call yesterday morning informing her that her children’s father was murdered, and that was all the information available to her up to press time.
The woman added that the last time she had seen De Roche was during the elections period, before he returned to the interior. He had told her then that he would return in April 2012, for her birthday.
The man’s oldest child is 23 years old and the youngest is 16 years old. He was described as a jovial person, who liked to dance.
He has left to mourn four siblings. Upon hearing the news of his demise, his sickly mother collapsed and had to be rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) yesterday morning.
His body is expected to be transported to the city where relatives are waiting to identify the remains.
Ivy Orna said that, two years ago, she also received news that he had an accident, had fallen and was dead, but he later showed up very much alive. She is refusing to believe he is dead until she sees his body.
In another incident which occurred around 18:15hrs Friday, Mark Narine, 19, of Jacklow, Lower Pomeroon was driving a boat with two other persons inside in the Abrams Creek, Upper Pomeroon when the vessel reportedly struck a log and capsized, resulting in his demise.
His body was later recovered and is at the Charity Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
