Seven charged with Wednesday Western Union $10.5M robbery
SIX men and a woman have been charged with the $10.5M robbery committed at the Church Street, Georgetown, Western Union branch, earlier this week. The seven, Brandon Dickson, Issiah Hohenkirk, Brian Dickson, Christopher Rogers, Keith Lowenfield, Primia Boyce and Mona Pereira (no addresses given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on joint indictable charges related to the December 21 heist.
One charge said, being armed with a gun, they robbed Samantha Adonis of one Blackberry cell phone valued $40,000 and the other said they stole $10.5M belonging to John Pires, popularly known as ‘Johnny P’.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said Adonis, who is an employee of Pires at the money transfer business, was about to close the premises when Dickson and Hohenkirk approached her brandishing a handgun.
The prosecutor said the two accused robbed her of her cell phone and then entered the building from where they took $10.5M. but, after a report was made, two of the accused were apprehended and further investigations led to the arrest of the other five.
The court was told that $6.9M of the booty were recovered in the homes of Dickson and Rogers.
Bail was granted to Boyce and Pereira in the sum of $500,000 each but the other five accused were remanded to prison until January 5.
