Pre-dawn protest at Greene’s residence…

Police charge seven women with illegal procession
POLICE have charged seven women with taking part in an unlawful pre-dawn procession, Tuesday, outside the Lamaha Springs, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown home of Commissioner Henry Greene.
Vanessa Delph, Melissa Leacock, Andrea Marks, Eslyn Jackson, Shondel Hope, Ann Adams and Annette Ferguson all appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on the joint charge of being part of a procession without permission.
The defendants, activists of the political opposition, all pleaded not guilty to the December 21 offence.
Police Sergeant, Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said, around 04:00 hrs, the women were outside Greene’s residence, in the Joint Services Housing Scheme.
The prosecutor said checks made revealed that no permission was given the women to protest.
However, defence counsel, Basil Williams, a named Opposition Member of Parliament (MP), told the court the defendants are “highly spiritual” and were going to pray for the Commissioner because they heard of all his problems.
The defendants were released on their own individual recognisances and placed on a bond to keep the peace until January 9, 2012.
