THE Annual Guyana Badminton Association-organised, Woodpecker Trophy-sponsored Junior Christmas Singles tournament got under way at the Queen’s College Badminton Courts yesterday. The results of the matches played are as follows:
Under-11 Boys’ singles: Jonathan Mangra beat Ajave Singh: 21-13, 21-14, Ajave Singh stopped Omari Joseph 18-21, 21-13, 21-10, before Mangra defeated Omari Joseph 21-18, 21-12 to take the title.
In the Under-11 Girls’ singles final, Priyanna Ramdhani got past Ambika Ramraj: 21-16, 21-10 while in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles semifinals, Narayan Ramdhani thrashed Josh Odit 21-1, 21-6 and Cecil Abrams defeated Ajave Singh: 21-12, 21-12 while Ramdhani got the better of Abrams 21-12, 21-12 to take the Boys’ Under-15 Singles title.
In the Under-15 Girls’ singles semi-finals, Ambika Ramraj defeated Varsha Boodram: 21-14, 21-18 and Priyanna Ramdhani whipped Nadine Jairam: 21-8, 21-14.
There was action in the Under-19 Boys’ singles quarter-finals in which Nicholas Ali defeated Cecil Abrams 21-9, 21-15, Avinash Odit got past Noel Shewjattan 21-18, 25-23, Jonathan Hohenkirk stopped Christopher Persaud 21-16, 16-21, 21-10 and Narayan Ramdhani turned back the challenge of Sanjave Singh 21-13, 21-15.
Angelica Holder won the Girls’ Under-19 title, when she crushed Tricia Ramjit 21-4, 21-6.
The action will continue at the same venue from 10:30hrs today, where the remaining finals and third-placed matches will be contested.
