THE body of an unidentified male, who appeared to be in his 40s, was discovered by the residents of Covent Garden on East Bank Demerara, floating in a canal yesterday. It was unclear, up to press time, if there was any foul play involved in his death and there was speculation that the deceased, of East Indian descent, could have fallen into the deep while was under the influence of alcohol.
Residents in the area said the man may have been waiting for transportation when he accidentally slipped into the water and the fact that the road lights are not operational might have contributed to him not being seen before.
The discovery of the corpse was made around 10:00 hrs yesterday morning, after which the police were summoned and it was taken to Lyken’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post mortem examination.
