WEATHER permitting, the Blairmont Community Centre ground will be buzzing with activity from 09:00hrs today, when the second annual Blairmont Cup, sponsored by Banks DIH, Sterling Products Limited, Universal DVD Club and Baksh Travel Service, gets under way. Defending champions Blairmont Blazers, whose lineup includes Brandon Bess, Karamdat Bissoondyal, Romesh Boodram and Deveshwari Persaud, will battle against the likes of United Warriors, Die Hard Rangers and D’Edward Sports Club (DSC) for the $50 000 first prize and trophy.
The runner-up team will pocket $30 000 and a trophy, while the man-of-the-match in the two semifinals and final, the player-of-the-tournament and the winner of the play-of-the-day, will be rewarded for their efforts.
Players of the calibre of Keith Fraser, Eon Abel and Deryck Narine will be representing DSC while the United Warriors lineup, which consists of past and future players of Blairmont Cricket Club, will be represented by Subhan Abdool, Permanand Ramdhan, Basdeo and Ridwan Ramjohn.
Apart from the cricket action, a dominoes competition along with barbecue, ice cream sale, toys and air horns for kids will be part of the day’s action, while the organisers have stated in a press release that the day’s activity is being used to raise funds for the club’s 2012 programme while spreading Christmas joy to the children.
