T&T’s Emrit and Maple trump Mohammed and Empire for T20 title

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Rayad Emrit defied a penetrative spell of left-arm chinaman bowling from compatriot Dave Mohammed to help Maple capture their second Barbados Twenty20 title with a 31-run victory over Empire on Sunday.
Emrit, a member of the Trinidad & Tobago team preparing for the Caribbean T20 next month, hit the top score of 39, as Maple posted a modest 127 for eight after choosing to bat in the Final at Kensington Oval.
The T&T all-rounder three fours and one six from 26 balls before he was bowled, becoming the second of four wickets in four overs that cost 30 runs for Mohammed.
Don O’neal, a former Barbados Under-19 player, then snared four scalps of his own for 23 runs in four overs and left-arm spinner Jamar Griffith collected two for eight from three overs, as Empire were dismissed for 96 with six balls remaining.
Jomel Warrican, the former West Indies Under-19 left-arm spinner, led the way for Empire with 22, but no other batsman reached 20.
Maple, the local club of West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach, won the inaugural tournament three years ago.
