Baksh visits Region 2, explains new ministerial job
NEWLY appointed Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Ali Baksh who was Chairman of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) before his ministerial appointment, visited and interacted with members of staff in the main office at Anna Regina.
Accompanied by Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Sunil Singh, Baksh was welcomed and congratulated by all staffers in the different sections of the Administrative Office.
Minister Baksh, who was Regional Chairman for some 19 years, told employees that they must continue the hard work to develop the region and give his successor the same cooperation they gave him in the past.
He told them his new job will be very challenging because it would be the focus of agricultural development across the entire country.
Baksh said he has a wealth of experience in the sector which he will apply in the Agriculture Ministry.
He explained that he has learnt a lot in the field of while managing Region 2 over the 19 years.
According to him, Region 2, which is an agricultural region, has advanced very far in the production of rice, other crops, cattle rearing, poultry and livestock under his chairmanship.
He also assured that priority will be given, by the Agriculture Ministry to some 5,000 acres of State land, aback Aurora and Riverstown, also on Essequibo Coast, to be developed at a much faster rate.
His aim is to boost agriculture, so more produce can be exported out of Guyana.
Baksh said more emphasis will be placed on developing fertile rice lands in Amerindian communities and pledged that the type of farming in those areas would be changed from “just to survive” to production on a bigger scale.
