MAGISTRATE Sueanna Lovell yesterday remanded to prison a man charged with attempting to murder his two-year-old daughter. Rawle Handy (no address given) is alleged to have committed the offence on Tiffany Handy, on November 29, at Koberina Creek, North West District.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said, that day, the accused had an argument with his reputed wife and he took the child to the creek where he tied her neck with a belt and put her head in the water.
The prosecutor said, after the child had drunk some water public-spirited citizens went to her rescue and she was taken to a hospital, where she is presently out of danger.
However, the prosecutor successfully objected to bail for the accused, based on the seriousness of the crime and that mother and child are still traumatised by the incident.
The case has been transferred to another court for February 14, 2012.
