President Ramotar, Granger hold talks

NEWLY appointed President Donald Ramotar and leader of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) David Granger met for discussions Monday at the Office of the President, beginning a process that is likely to be an ongoing feature. Joining the discussion that went for some time were Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon, and Adviser to the President on Governance Gail Teixeira.
Among the issues discussed were those that were of concern to the opposition party during the 2011 general and regional elections.
At the onset of his journey to presidency, the Head of State had promised to leave the door open to the process of dialogue with the Opposition.
The ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) won 48.6 percent of the votes, amounting to 32 seats in the recently concluded elections, against an Opposition which secured a majority 33 seats in the National Assembly.
President Ramotar, in an interview in the lead-up to the elections, had shared his outlook for a legislature that is influenced through involvement of the Opposition and public contributions.
