WHO is Leon Suseran speaking for? He once declared the supremacy of Christianity and the sole church as that of the Roman Catholic. He was confronted, but knowing that
he utters false declarations, he hid behind an ‘inkless pen.’ So in this vein, I have a few remarks to make, and I hope that this time around, he will respond. First, if he (Suseran) “…never did foresee such a delay in the election results…” then that is no reason for the world to empathise with him. This is not a first time. Guyana is not unique in this. Let me enlighten Brother Suseran: “European Union observers said they saw no signs of fraud during Ivory Coast’s election, but warned that logistical and procedural problems were delaying the results and risked fomenting suspicions of rigging. The election body has said that partial results from Sunday’s poll, in which 80 percent of Ivory Coast’s 5.7 million people voted would be published on Tuesday. (http://af.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idAFTRE6A13X220101102).
Now I move further by asking, which is better.
Should the process be hurried and the results be compromised and inaccurate? For your information, all the contesting parties were privy to the general outcome of the elections as early as Tuesday morning. So I think you need to wake up. Now, I ask for logistics to be analysed. Yes, this is a country with just under 800,000 people, and a voting population of less (should use the word fewer here) than 500,000, so it is beyond you to grasp the perceived deliberate slothfulness of the release of results by GECOM. Well how about this: Once at the Grantley Adams airport in Barbados, I was awaiting a friend. His flight got delayed, and I had enough time to ‘spin around’ the island. My friend came after I had time to snack. The whole exercise took just under three hours. So logistically, I assume, that you can ‘spin around’ Guyana, in three hours, and not in a car like I did, but in an aircraft. So much for your skewed and limited sense of analysis! Now, here again, I am shocked that your knowledge of polling is so limited. You cast aspersions on Dr Steve Surujbally, by saying that “…he keeps holding press conferences and keeps wasting the media and the population’s time. (And that) he has no real information to present. You need to be informed here again, that Dr. Surujbally cannot and will not conjure up figures. One party did that, broadcast it, and the repercussions almost redounded in a riot. (Were you not following on a specific channel?). Then again, how come you missed the former President, Bharrat Jagdeo’s chiding of GECOM? All were impatient, especially the ‘unknowing’ and ‘waiting’ public. However, all contesting parties appealed for patience. During an erstwhile time, Guyana had elections, and before counting even started, the results were announced. You want that again Sir? Well I rest my case. You know all is well that ends well. APNU is disgruntled, but the party is satisfied that the process was ‘transparent.’ And how about the observing teams speaking well of the elections.
The folly of generalisation
