…there will be some new faces
PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar is likely to name his Cabinet today. In a brief comment to the Guyana Chronicle yesterday, he indicated that he was in the process of putting together the new Cabinet.
He said while there will be some changes, there will be a retention of some former Cabinet members.
President Ramotar emerged victorious from a field of four presidential contestants, as his party, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) emerged with the largest bloc of votes (48.6%) at the November 28 General and Regional Elections. The other contestants were David Granger of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Khemraj Ramjattan of the Alliance for Change, and Peter Persaud of The United Force (TUF).
The PPP/C got 32 seats, while APNU and AFC got 26 and seven seats respectively. TUF failed to gain a seat.
Following his official inauguration on Saturday at State House, President Ramotar pledged to make Guyana a better country, with peace and unity.
“I pledge to you that I will work steadfastly towards the goal of making Guyana a better place for all, with peace and unity as my guiding theme. I promise to be a fair and just president, to govern in the interest of all, and to ensure that the legitimate aspirations of our people are respected, and the resources of Guyana must benefit all our people,” he said
