Fulham sunk by late Janko strike

(EUROSPORT) – Fulham’s hopes of reaching the Europa League last 32 suffered a blow after substitute Marco Janko struck late on to give FC Twente a merited 1-0 win at De Grolsch Veste.
Martin Jol’s side looked to have scrapped their way to a 0-0 draw despite doing little of note against the Dutch side – who qualify as Group K winners – until Austrian forward Janko popped up unmarked on 88 minutes to convert Roberto Rosales’ cross for a deserved win.

The night ended on a low note for Fulham in some teeming rain with top goalscorer Andy Johnson sent off for a second yellow card after he booted the ball away a minute into time added on by the Croatian referee Marijo Strahonja.
Fulham could have few complaints about the outcome after soaking up sustained spells of Twente pressure throughout the night. The 2010 Europa League finalists now need to beat Odense at Craven Cottage on December 14 after Wisla Krakow kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Odense in Denmark.
Wisla are a point behind second-placed Fulham, but will need to overcome Twente in Poland and hope Fulham fail to overcome Odense to keep alive their slim qualification hopes.
