FORMER Kashif and Shanghai champions Victoria Kings continued their dominance in football on the East Coast of Demerara yesterday, when they defeated Beterverwagting Triumph United 3-1 in the feature match of the East Demerara Football Association organized Mackeson Premier League.
In the first encounter of the double header which was played at the Beterverwagting Community Centre ground, Bakewell Buxton Stars who had a magnificent start to this year’s tournament were held to a goalless draw by Mahaica Determinators.
Pierre Joseph sent Victoria Kings the 2001 Kashif and Shanghai champions into the lead as early as the 15th minute, when he fired in a ripper from 30 yards out against the run of play.
A see saw battle ensued between both teams, before veteran Kings forward Winston Pompey latched onto a pass from national Under-20 player Calvin De Souza and found the back of the net in the 42nd minute, handing his team a two nil cushion at the break.
Eon Garnett pushed it to three in twenty-one minutes into the second half, following a gem of a pass from Horace Graham, much to the delight of the Kings’ supporters who had gathered at the venue to urge their team on.
Even though Eon Dooker pulled one back for the home team in the 79th minute, it was all over bar the shouting, as the Kings not only confirmed their superiority in the sport on the East Coast, but also began their preparation for the 22nd Kashif and Shanghai tournament.
