Director of Sports pledges land for GTTA home

DIRECTOR of Sports within the National Sports Commission Neil Kumar has made a pledge to donate a plot of land for the Guyana Table Tennis Association to house their headquarters.
This pledge was publicly made at a closing ceremony for the GTTA’s organized Digicel sponsored national schools table tennis tournament which concluded last week at the Queen’s College auditorium.

Kumar, who was very excited over the Association having another successful youth tournament and the massive talent shown in the sport congratulated the executives of the GTTA led by Commissioner of Police Henry Greene DSS, DSM, for the dedicated and hard work displayed.
Making specific mention on the leadership of the association, he lamented that over the past years, the GTTA has struggled to run off tournaments and now with Greene at the helm they can boast of their achievements and say that they are the number one association in sports in Guyana.
He stated that the success of the tournament was challenging since the main venue for table tennis, the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, is presently under rehabilitation works, while he had heated exchanges of words with Greene for the tournament to be hosted at that venue.
However, he continued by stating that the Mecca of table tennis, the Queen’s College auditorium, was being reused for another successful table tennis tournament.
With this being so the GTTA which has demonstrated the capacity to lead and organize the sport for the development in Guyana deserved nothing but the best and more so, we will make a donation of land for the Association to house their home of table tennis.
