-says conditions for tomorrow’s polls satisfactory
PEOPLE’S Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) presidential candidate Donald Ramotar predicts that, in a free and fair process, the PPP/C will win the elections with a larger majority of the votes, and proceed with bringing greater change to Guyana, with concomitant benefits for the Guyanese people. At yesterday’s Freedom House press briefing, he declared the conditions set for the upcoming polls as very good, adding that the work of the Guyana Elections Commission must be supported.
“The list that we know was compiled during the house-to-house process by GECOM is very good … The list is the most important thing for any free and fair elections’ process,” he said.
Ramotar added that the PPP/C has a good manifesto, with a realistic vision for Guyana’s development.
“We have a good manifesto … It is going to be very hard work, but we are accustomed to hard work,” he said.
HARD FOUGHT
He described the campaigns as hard fought, a struggle that will hopefully translate into political capital for the PPP/C.
“We have worked very hard … our government has performed very well in the last five years,” Ramotar said.
He pointed to the fact that Guyana has averaged growth of five per cent annually at a time when the global financial crisis had rocked the country’s trading partners and the Caribbean.
“In these circumstances, we still manage to grow … This is a remarkable achievement,” Ramotar said.
Ramotar maintained that, at the end of the day, the focus must remain on ensuring that the Guyanese people are united, to ensure that Guyana moves forward to greater progress and prosperity.
“We can do it in different ways … We have to put our country first, and put aside partisan views in the interest of the state, to move our country forward,” he posited.
SMOOTH PROCESS
PPP/C prime ministerial candidate Samuel Hinds added that, compared to previous elections’ processes, this year’s activities are flowing smoothly.
“The relationship between the parties is better … I am looking forward to a peaceful elections,” he said.
Hinds pointed out that all the major parties are campaigning freely, and the public is less agitated as Election Day draws nearer. This describes the tolerant atmosphere that has been created, which lends to people being more comfortable during an elections period.
The prime ministerial candidate added that, overall, GECOM’s massive efforts in being ready for elections are satisfactory.
The two leaders concur that the PPP/C welcomes all stakeholders who bring to national development constructive contributions that will bring benefits for all Guyanese.
