… signs three-year deal
TEAMS competing in this year’s 22nd edition of the Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) football tournament would not have to worry about the top prize, since the sponsor Aruwai Enterprise Incorporated handed over same to the organisers yesterday.
The tournament was launched on Saturday November 5 at Duke Lodge, where co-director of the K&S Organisation Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major made the announcement of the prizes which will be up for grabs, receiving wows from his audience after making the announcement of the first prize which is being sponsored by Aruwai Enterprise Incorporated.
Added to the first prize, the second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $1M, $500 000 and $300 000 respectively while the tournament’s Most Valuable Player will ride away with one motorcycle.
At yesterday’s presentation ceremony, managing director of Aruwai Enterprise, Kevin Baboolall, handed over the cheque for G$4M to general secretary of the K&S Organisation Colin ‘BL’ Aaron.
In his acceptance speech, Kashif Muhammad thanked the sponsor who will be erecting a shopping plaza on Sherriff Street in the not-too-distant future, for coming on board with the tournament.
“We at the K&S organisation feel pleased to know that Aruwai Enterprise has chosen us as the benchmark to launch their Shopping Complex and we are happy to be associated with them, while at the same time pleased to announce their willingness to sponsor the first prize for three years.
We have received this guarantee, which enables us to guarantee teams, competing in our tournament, a magnificent first prize, as it is our aim to take the tournament from one level to the next as the years go by,” said Muhammad.
Also present at the presentation ceremony were Office Manager of K&S Organisation Sonia Stanislaus and Major, while Muhammad disclosed that the opening ceremony will take place at Georgetown Cricket Club ground, following which two first-round encounters will kick off.
