DWAYNE Hinds, 22, was sentenced to three months imprisonment yesterday, for unlawfully assaulting his girlfriend, Karen Hussain. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry imposed the penalty on Hinds after he pleaded guilty to the November 20 offence.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the prisoner and the virtual complainant shared an intimate relationship but he became upset when Hussain said she was going at her mother’s and told her to take her belongings, which he threw out of the house.
The prosecutor said Hussain asked Hinds why he was behaving in such a manner and he slapped and kicked her about the body several times.
In answer to the magistrate, Hinds (no address given) said he and the virtual complainant would, usually, have problems and, that day, he wanted to break up with her.
The prisoner admitted slapping and kicking Hussain but, according to him, not too hard.
