PPP/C has replaced Guyanese shame with pride
THE shame that Guyanese felt, as a nation, has been replaced by an abundance of reasons to be proud, a sense of pride that has been restored by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy told the party rally at Bath, West Coast Berbice, on Sunday. He said the source of Guyana’s pride is the result of much struggle and Guyana is flourishing under the leadership of the PPP/C.
“Today we are proud…today we have transformed Guyana,” Ramsammy reiterated.
He said, at the recent CARICOM Heads of Government meeting, Guyana was, once more, described as the “only bright shining star” in the grouping, having come back from the times of a dictator.
“We used to be ashamed because they wasted our money,” Ramsammy said.
According to him, under the rule of the Opposition, several ventures were undertaken in futility and included everything from a clothing factory and a bicycle factory to bigger ventures like hydroelectricity.
“No bicycle ever came out…no electricity was generated to light a single bulb,” he noted.
Ramsammy said: “People were ashamed of our country but Cheddi Jagan never gave up. The PPP/C never gave up…the PPP/C has transformed Guyana and everyone is looking at us…dem ah watch we.”
He maintained that Guyana is well positioned and can be even better tomorrow, with the PPP/C at Guyana’s helm.
Ramsammy declared that the truth is the Opposition “bruk up we country” and brought nothing but shame to the Guyanese people.
“Our legacy is about making people’s lives better,” he said.
Acknowledging that nothing is perfect, Ramsammy cited the child mortality rate as an example, saying that, before the PPP/C took office, 2,600 children died each year. Now that number has been reduced to approximately 200 per year.
He said, under the PPP/C, the Guyanese people have seen consistent improvements in their livelihoods in every area.
Ramsammy said there are those who oppose for the sake of opposing and added that those who the “neemakharaam” and “harkaati” hats fit should wear it.
“I tried on the PPP/C hat and it fit me perfectly…I tried the presidential cap on Granger, it fly off. I tried it on Ramjattan and it ain’t fit but I tried it on Donald Ramotar and it fit,” he shouted to a cheering crowd.
“We are creating a united country…this is we country and we want this country proud, one nation, one people, one destiny,” Ramsammy posited.
