PATRICK Sugrim, a Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) supporter, who was instrumental in organizing many public meetings, rallies for the party’s elections campaign, is being mourned by many, including his loved ones.
The body of Sugrim, 53, of 384 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, was discovered by his family members floating in a canal aback of Canal No.Two Polder early yesterday morning.
His son Satrohan, 32, yesterday told the Guyana Chronicle that his father left home on his motorcycle around 15:00hrs on Wednesday and failed to return home.
The man added that his dad a Foreman attached to Drainage and Irrigation for the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and his death came as a shock to them as well as villagers and others.
The man’s son stated that when he did not return home on Wednesday night, they began searching for him but to no avail.
But early yesterday morning they received information that a body resembling Sugrim’s was observed floating in the conservancy and the police were summoned.
Satrohan added that his father’s motorcycle was retrieved from the conservancy some distance away from the body and the bike was later released to family members.
The motorcycle was not damaged and Sugrim’s personal jewellery was still on the body. From the looks of the incident it does not appear as though the elder Sugrim was the victim of a robbery or any foul play but he had a huge gash on the forehead.
The father of two is survived by his wife and scores of relatives, some of whom were at his home yesterday, while a shed was being constructed to accommodate a wake.
