Black Bush Secondary win B’ce Inter-School Chess Tournament

BLACK Bush Secondary were adjudged winners of the second Berbice Inter-school Chess Championship which was held at the Berbice High School, New Amsterdam.
The tournament, in which ten schools participated from the district, saw the eventual victors score the maximum four points from the four rounds.

Members of the victorious squad were Daniel Ramgadoo, Leroy Layne, Carlos Rahaman and Anel Latchman. J.C. Chandisingh Secondary came in second; Skeldon Line Path Secondary was third while St. Theresa’s Primary finished fourth.
In the individual category Hemchan Narain of J.C. Chandisingh Secondary played unbeaten to reign supreme while Elizabeth Ramgoolam of Black Bush Secondary copped second place with three wins and Yutesh Dyal of Port Mourant Primary was third with two and a half points.
Those secondary schools were Black Bush, J.C. Chandisingh, Skeldon Line Path, Corentyne Comprehensive High, Berbice High, Tagore Memorial, Manchester and Canje Secondary. St Theresa’s and Port Mourant Primary were the only two primary schools to participate.
This tournament was staged through a collaborative effort of the Region Six Department of Education, the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce and the Guyana Chess Federation.
Prizes were sponsored by Republic Bank, the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam, Surendra Ganesh, D. Balram, Shane and Imran Hamid General Stores of Berbice.
