Police find narcotic after wife reports, couple remanded

A MAN and his reputed wife were refused bail yesterday on a joint drug trafficking charge.
Roy Sanford and Onika Pompey (no addresses given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged jointly and both pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The allegation against the couple is that, on November 9, at Middle Road, La Penitence, they trafficked in 256 grammes of cannabis (marijuana).
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said the woman had gone to the police station to make a report of an abuse against the man.
The prosecutor said she told ranks that Sanford had drugs in the house and, when the police went there, she showed them where the narcotic was hidden.
The defendants will make their next court appearance on December 15.
