MANCHESTER City has fined defender Kolo Toure £740 000 for the failed drugs test that saw him banned for six months. Toure has accepted the fine of six weeks’ wages in relation to his suspension for failing a drug test, while he was handed a six-month ban by the Football Association in May, backdated to March 2, after he tested positive for a prohibited substance.
The 30-year-old, who claimed the positive test came as a result of taking his wife’s diet pills, made his playing comeback from the suspension in September, but last week had an internal disciplinary hearing at City, leading to the club’s announcement.
A statement released by City yesterday evening read: “Following the conclusion of an internal disciplinary process, Manchester City Football Club can confirm that Kolo Toure has received a fine of six weeks’ wages which relates to doping offences committed by him earlier this year.
“Kolo accepts the decision and he and the club now wish to draw a line under this matter and focus on the season ahead.” (PA Sport)
