Five teams victorious on opening night
THE opening night of the annual Guinness ‘Greatest in Da Street’ Football Competition got underway with an entertaining night of action at the Albouystown Basketball Court on Saturday. The action continues on Wednesday night at the East Ruimveldt Basketball Court from 6pm where Laing Avenue meets Linden Retrieve, Buxton versus Linden Eagles, Lodge versus Festival City and Stevedore versus Queens Street Tiger Bay.
After the break the final four matches of the night will get underway: Back Circle versus Plaisance, Castello Housing Scheme versus West Back Road, East Front Road versus Hope Street Tiger Bay and West Front Road versus East La Penitence.
On Saturday, five teams namely Charlestown, Island Allstars, Alexander Village, Albouystown A and B reigned supreme to move up in their groups.
The first half of the night saw Michael Payne (3rd), Jamal Bevons (7th) and D. Bond (11th) scoring for Charlestown to get them to victory over Beterverwagting who had goals coming from Akum Charles and G. Harris.
Island Allstars had Devon Hyman and Paul Porter scoring a goal each as they romped to a 2 – 0 victory over Kitty.
Globe Yard and Sophia battled to an entertaining 3 – 3 draw as both teams traded shot for shot and scored earlier but neither side was able to shift the weight of the match in the second half. In the other draw before the break Rasville and Kingston ended their battle 1 – 1.
The final four matches of the night had Alexander Village defeating North Last Entrance 2 – 0 with Leon Yaw and Dellon Williams scoring for the victors.
Dellon Samall doubled for Albouystown A with support from Andrew Murray as they got past Norton Street who had Randolph Sinclair recording a consolation goal.
Albouystown B shared the same fate as the first string squad as they trounced Leopold Street 3 – 1. Goals came from Ryan Bobb, Delroy De’Aguair and Sheldon Thomas. A. Sookhoo was Leopold’s only scorer.
The Durban Street/Broad Street clashes which ended 1 – 1 accounted for the eight match.
