Two refused bail on robbery, burglary charges

TWO men, on separate charges of robbery and burglary, were both remanded to prison yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
One of the prisoners, Ray Yukum is charged indictably with having, on October 29, robbed Tyron De Freitas of one gold band valued $500,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Yukum, mentioning that he has another case pending and is a flight risk.
The prosecutor said the virtual complainant was about to enter his yard when Yukum snatched the jewel and escaped on a waiting motorcycle but, based on the description, the robber was arrested and positively indentified by the victim.
Yukum will be back in court on November 14.
The other prisoner sent on remand is Damion Austin (no address given either) who faced two charges of break and enter and larceny.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to both, one of which said, on July 9, 2010, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Robert Persaud and stole booty valued a total of $188,000.
The second charge said, on August 28, 2011, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Dale (only name given) and stole items worth $187,000.
The prosecutor said since the defendant committed the offence last year, he was only caught recently after fingerprints matched.
Austin, too, was refused bail and will return to court on November 14, as well.
