IN A ceremony held on Friday night at the Cara Lodge in Quamina Street, Georgetown, 13 employees of the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) were awarded for their long and sterling service to the power company. The ceremony was followed by a dinner with the GPL Chief Executive Officer, Bharrat Dindyal, members of the GPL Board of Directors, and managers of that entity.
In remarks, Dindyal told the gathering that each awardee had contributed 25 years to the company, and the GPL was pleased to recognise the awardees’ efforts. The ceremony was just to present the awardees with a token and to say ‘thank you’.
Dindyal gave a history of the company from the time he joined the then Guyana Electricity Corporation (GEC) in 1985. He detailed the challenges of the work at that time, when several projects had come to an end.
Dindyal also spoke of the many developments in the electricity sector since then, and also about the outstanding ability of the awardees, who had given so many years of service to GPL.
Meanwhile, Narvon Persaud, a member of the Board of Directors, in brief remarks, spoke of the developmental strides of GPL in service and network expansion.
He said the power company is still expanding its services while strengthening and extending generation to meet the needs of its consumers countrywide.
Persaud added that the awardees remained professionals, and it is good they have been recognised for the services they had given.
Retired employee Michael Abrams was also awarded for his 12-year contribution to GPL.
The 12 awardees who were each presented a gold ring as a token of appreciation were: Loaknauth Singh, field services manager of the Loss Reduction Department; Bonny Murray, system operations engineer of the System Control Department in Berbice; Marlon Cliffe, line journeyman of the Transmission and Distribution Department (T&D) at Area South; Terrence Clarke, line journeyman of the T&D at Area South; Sharon Europe-Baker, data entry operator in the Billing Department; Megan Mc Cammon, cashier in the Commercial Department at Onverwagt, WCB; Telbert Green, line journeyman of the Metering Department at Sophia; Lavern Hamilton, typist/clerk in the Generation Department at Onverwagt; Clyde Mc Almont, network patrolman in the T&D Department at Onverwagt, West Berbice; Andrew Moonsammy, senior network technician in the T&D Department at Central; Frank Stoby, P&A supervisor in the regional office at Essequibo; and Leila La Fleur, executive secretary in the Office of the Regional Manager for Berbice.

Also making remarks were Arlene Huntley from the Employee Relations and Welfare Department; Loaknauth Singh, field services manager; and GPL Public Relations Officer Shevion Sears-Murray.
