Campbellville man in critical condition after violent robbery

THE police, up to yesterday, were yet to make an arrest following the violent robbery of Mohabir Sugrim, 56, by three men, at Lot 246 Blygezight, Campbellville, Georgetown. The victim, who was cruelly beaten in his home before his attackers carted off  money and jewels, among other things, is a patient at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), suffering severe head and body injuries.
Sugrim was surprised in his house by the three bandits on Tuesday night.
His daughter, Rhonda King, told the Guyana Chronicle, yesterday, that her father had returned home after viewing the Diwali motorcade and was watching television at about 23:00 hrs when the robbers barged in and started beating him while demanding
valuables.

King said, at the time, he was alone in the house, into which the trio gained entry by forcing open a wooden door at the side of the two-storeyed concrete building.
She said this is the second robbery, following another last March 4 when bandits stormed the residence and took away some money.
King said, this time, the robbers used a nipper, a crescent and whatever else they found in the house to beat her duct-taped father, who remains traumatised by the ordeal.
She said they stole a video camera, a cellular phone, cash and jewellery.
King said her mother had passed away some months ago and now her father is having a difficult time with which she is hoping he can cope.
The man’s condition is listed as critical but stable and she was taking him to have a CT scan to determine the extent of his head injuries.
When the Guyana Chronicle visited the scene yesterday, the police were combing the place for clues and had already dusted for fingerprints and taken statements from relatives.
The entire bottom flat of the house was ransacked and pieces of clothing and kitchen utensils were strewn on the floor.
