Show the unmerciful no mercy

ON Thursday, October 20, three infants brutally murdered by their father were laid to rest.
This story marks another dark chapter of abuse, which ultimately ends in death. These three kids were callously knifed to death in their sleep by a father who was annoyed with his wife for having gone into “the bush” against his wishes. He was so incensed with his wife’s adulterous ways that he vented his anger in the coldest and most cowardly of fashions on those poor, defenceless children.

This brings us to the haunting question: why would a supposedly “loving” father butcher his children when the real object of his frustrated anger was his wife?
To begin with, John Blanchard was no loving father. He can be categorised as a lazy bully who would rather stay at home to take care of the children while the wife goes out “to hustle.”
He is only now embarrassed to the point of becoming murderous because of the meddling actions of his relatives.                          And this is the problem I have with some men in our society, that scant regard for the life of another human being. In their scheme of things, women, and in this particular case children, are mere property for them to dispose of however they wish.
When one’s life is reduced to the lowly level of “a thing” (statement referring to women, with a lesser implication to children), then the killing of a thing does not require remorse. Hence, we should not gasp and sigh at these ghastly acts; or ask the question why.
That question has already been quantified in the cowardly way some men resolve conflict in Guyana today. What we should be concerned about is what to do with such beasts in society.
Now this takes our argument to another level, and I would hasten to add a distressing one at that, because this matter will simply peter out into another case that will run cold as the justice system drags out the matter.
My reason for saying this is because I want to know why is there, all of a sudden, this great concern for the life and safety of the perpetrator. Blanchard is a cold-blooded murderer who must be dealt with swiftly and condignly. He was placed in a cell with other prisoners, who know exactly what punishment a criminal with such capabilities should have. They know what real justice is all about!
So when he was attacked and given just punishment by his fellow inmates, that silly officer should have turned a blind eye and let natural justice take its course. Blanchard’s rescue and subsequent isolation have afforded him the privileged position of becoming a charmed guest of the state at  hapless tax payers’ expense.
When a criminal’s life becomes the sacred responsibility of the state, then we are in for a long night of sorrow, as there are bound to be more of these morbid occurrences taking place.
People who perpetrate such heinous crimes against humanity should themselves receive no mercy. Their lives should come to an abrupt end also; or, at least, they should never be able to see the light of freedom again.
