Rain ruins Super 50 matches at Providence and Everest

HEAVY overnight and early morning drizzles, kept both host Guyana and the Sagicor High Performance Centre  teams  indoors as their second round Group ‘A’ Regional Super50 encounter at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence was ruled out yesterday.
Both teams along with umpires  Goland Greaves and Lennox Abraham, braved a brief early morning shower and arrived at one of the fastest drying cricket venues in the Caribbean to the sight of covers on the playing area.

Despite making three inspections by both the umpires, the persistent rainfall which would have reduced the amount of time made available to start a match after preparing the pitch, was not conducive enough which forced the officials to call off play at 13:15hrs.
Both teams walked away with two points each, which means Guyana has cemented their place in the semi-finals with one more game to go against joint defending champions Barbados at the Blairmont Community Centre ground tomorrow, while Sagicor HPC will head into their game against Windward Islands with four points.
Across at the Everest Cricket Club ground, not a ball was bowled between the Windward Islands and Barbados encounter, forcing both sides to share the points as well.
The action continues today weather permitting, with Jamaica taking on Combined Campuses and Colleges at Everest, while Trinidad and Tobago face the Leeward Islands at the Guyana National Stadium. (Calvin Roberts and Kizan Brummel)
