APNU confirms it is PNC!
The cat is now officially out of the bag. APNU told the nation what everybody knows. So it is no longer a cat, but a kitten! The whole country knows that the PNC tried to relive itself and make an “impression” by changing its name.
It even changed its symbol from the Palm Tree to the palms of two hands. Many believe that the new symbol is either a sign of guilt or an act of surrendering. Whatever it is, it doesn’t change anything. The PNC would always be the PNC regardless of whatever changes are implemented.
APNU is supposed to be a coalition of parties. Parties are supposed to have memberships and strength which would attract and force others to form a union. A shrewd Party that seeks a coalition knows that it must be able to derive maximum benefit from such a political union.
In other words, a coalition is among Parties that matter and which have relevance. In 1964, the PNC joined with the UF to prevent Dr. Cheddi Jagan and the PPP from taking office. In that year, the PPP was the Party that had won the most votes followed by the PNC and the UF.
The combined votes from PNC/UF union were slightly higher than that of the PPP. As such, the PPP was denied office and a coalition government took over in 1964. Such coalitions are common in India and Israel to name a few. These examples are just to point out that each Party in a coalition has political relevance. When examined, APNU is woefully lacking in this regard. It is made up of the PNC, WPA, GAP and the NFA. The PNC has been losing support over the years.
This is because they can no longer fool the populace since the developmental thrust of the PPP/C administration is overwhelming and covers all of Guyana. People have seen their lives transformed for the better under the PPP/C.
The PNC, with a track record of underachievement and oppression, cannot use the argument of lack of progress. The lives of members of their base support have been vastly improved over the 19 years the PPP/C has been in office. People can now judge for themselves. They have seen how modernised the country has become within a short period of time.
In 2006, the PNC lost at least five seats in Parliament from what they had held in 2001 despite a coalition then. This is another example of their dwindling support and eroding relevance.
The WPA is literally a two-person Party. They did not contest the 2006 election since they lacked the resources that constitute a Party. Today, their membership has dwindled further to just two; Rupert Roopnarine and Desmond Trotman.
GAP, given its almost insignificance, was forced to bond with ROAR in 2006. That union won a seat. ROAR then was more vibrant. The GAP/ROAR union no longer exists.
The NFA is basically a one-man Party in Keith Scott. When combined, WPA, NFA and GAP are Parties without membership and relevance! The three basically comprise a few who are desperate for recognition. The PNC is faced with the same problems. Theirs are exacerbated given their dismal record of mismanagement combined with its dictatorial and oppressive nature that brought the country to ruins. They could not in these modern times contest an election under the name of PNC and with the Palm Tree as its symbol. Desperate for political recognition, they joined with other desperate groups like the WPA, NFA and GAP.
As revealed recently, APNU’s management team was shown to comprise 96% of hardcore PNC loyalists and a combined 4 % membership from the three other Parties! This 4% is made up of 2 from the WPA (Roopnarine and Trotman); 1 from NFA (Keith Scott) and 1 from GAP! So clearly, APNU is PNC!
How could a coalition of what is touted as a “People’s partnership” be in ratio of 96:4? Where is the relevance of the WPA, NFA and GAP? Clearly it doesn’t exist and the PNC cannot fool Guyanese.
APNU is PNC and the so-called changes of name and symbol cannot change that. Indeed the cat is out and is running wild with desperation.
