Berbice schools get FFP donation of musical instruments

THE Berbice-based Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS),has received a boost to its music department, with gifts of a number of flutes, compliments of Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc. (FFP).
New Amsterdam Multilateral School, another learning institution in the ‘Ancient County’, also got 20 of the wind instruments, all of which were handed over to Regional Educational Officer, Ms. Shaifran Bhajan by FFP Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Leon Davis during a midday ceremony at the St Francis Community Developers headquarters recently.
Prior to the presentation, Davis promised additional musical instruments, in an effort to form a band which should attract male and female members.
He posited that, with the musical band on stream, students can be engaged more meaningfully in after-school training sessions, instead of indulging in unacceptable forms of behaviour.
Last July, several TASS students benefited from a Republic Bank sponsored Pan Minors, a musical literacy programme in steelpan training.
That was followed by the presentation of certificates and several public musical renditions, including for the recent commencement of Education Month observances at Berbice High School.
