Rain ruins Barbados, Sagicor HPC encounter

IT was a disappointing start to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Super50 Competition for the Barbados and Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) teams as rain ruined  their match up at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) Ground yesterday. The ‘no result’ decision was given at 15:15 hrs after rain interrupted play for the final time at 13:36 hrs. The Everest ground staff tried persistently to get water off the pitch even with the burning method and also sponging the heavily affect parts of the outfield but it was a futile effort.
Overnight and early morning rainfall made the arena unfit for play at the scheduled 09:00 hrs starting time. However, when the rain eased the officials made a ground inspection at 11:00 hours and decided for a 12:15 hours start with 34 overs aside.
Barbados won the toss and gave Sagicor HPC first strike and they got up to 100 – 5 from 20 overs in the 81 minutes of play.
Tino Best and Javon Searles opened the bowling attack for Barbados against HPC batters Kyle Corbin and Rajendra Chandrika.
Chandrika was the first to go for one when he slashed a ball to point and was caught by Dwayne Smith off a Best delivery in the fifth over, HPC was 20 – 1.
Corbin was joined by Nkrumah Bonner in the middle who worked the ball through the gaps while Corbin continued with his attack. Barbados then had  the opposition at 40 – 2 when Corbin went for another big shot through the covers but instead got a top edge and was caught by Ashley Nurse at third man off medium-pacer Dwayne  Smith.
Devon Thomas was the new batsman in and looked good at the start of his innings before he lofted one to Nurse at long on, off a Sulieman Benn delivery on 10 which left HPC at 58 – 3.
Skipper Shamar Brooks joined Bonner at the middle and edged his first ball to Dale Richards at first slip off Smith’s delivery with the score still on 58.
The new batsman, Shane Dorwich, and Bonner smacked a few boundaries and pressed for quick singles to take HPC to 82 before the former flashed at a wide one and nicked it to wicketkeeper Patrick Browne.
Bonner stayed solid on 38 at the other end as he was joined by number six batsman Jason Holder, and they took the score to triple figures before the final interruption.
Smith finished with 3 – 38 from seven overs while Best and Benn supported with one wicket each.
Meanwhile, the Trinidad and Tobago versus Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) encounter which was scheduled for the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda today has been moved to the Everest Cricket Club Ground and is scheduled  to start at 09:00 hrs.
The switch was made due to the state in which the GCC Ground was left due to the rainfall.
