…discusses staging first ever Essequibo Expo
MINISTER of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad last week met with the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI), during a visit to Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam).
Prashad and his team met with several of the Chamber’s executive members including the Chamber’s president, Mr. Tiwari Ramkellawan and discussed how they can work together to promote the region and attract more investments there.
He took the opportunity to urge the ECCI to be vibrant and proactive in promoting the Essequibo region, and he assured that his Ministry would work together with the ECCI to move the business sector in Essequibo forward.
Prashad encouraged the Chamber to come up with new initiatives to propel the private sector in Essequibo and to ensure that it continues to contribute towards accelerating development by being involved and working with various governmental agencies and other stakeholders.
The Chamber is also planning to host the first ever Essequibo Business Expo in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce to showcase what the Cinderella County has to offer and attract more investment to that area.
Minister Prashad noted that the Essequibo Coast is developing rapidly and it can attract a lot of investors with a range of economic opportunities available in the predominantly agricultural county.
He said the region has developed significantly over the years with a number of economic activities already taking place, and that whilst the government continues to create that enabling environment, the private sector which is important to the economy, must seek out and create opportunities which can help to generate employment for persons in the region and contribute to the overall development of our growing economy.
During his visit last week, Minister Prashad also visited the communities of Kabakaburi and St. Monica, in the Upper Pomeroon River, in Region 2.
