DOCTORS at the Georgetown Public Hospital were late yesterday afternoon battling to save the life of a 21-year old man who was stabbed in the chest around 17:00hrs at Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara. Moments later, a police patrol responded to reports made by villagers, picked up the wounded man, Dmitri Weekes, of 33 Onion Field, La Bonne Intention (LBI), and rushed him to hospital where he was attended to promptly.
The wounded man’s sister, Onicka Calder said that shortly after 17:00 hrs she received a phone call from her mother, Jennifer Curry, informing her that her brother had been stabbed and was lying on the road at Canterbury Walk. She responded promptly and, together with another sister, arrived on the scene and they were taken, along with their wounded brother, to the hospital in the police vehicle.
On arrival at the hospital, Weekes was bleeding profusely. The man’s weeping sisters said that his alleged attacker is a good friend with whom Weekes had a problem.
But they thought the matter had been resolved.
Weekes’ sisters expressed gratitude to the police for responding promptly to the call.
Police are hunting for the assailant.
